Privacy in Sama
Sama does the heavy work on your phone. This page lists what stays on your device, what leaves it, and why you don’t see a cookie banner.
No tracking cookies, no analytics, no ads. Sama only stores what it needs to work for you, such as your settings and practice history. Under German and EU law (§ 25 (2) TDDDG and the ePrivacy Directive), storage that is strictly necessary for a service you asked for does not need consent, so there is nothing to accept.
The camera
When you check your alignment, the pose model runs inside your browser. Photos, video and the camera stream are never uploaded. Recordings of your movement between poses stay on your device until you delete them in Settings.
What is kept on your device
Sama uses your browser’s local storage (not cookies) for:
- your settings: theme, voice, music, scene, camera view and pose engine
- your figure’s look, your profile answers and your practice plans
- your recent practice history, and whether you have seen the welcome and the tour
Clearing the site’s data in your browser removes all of it.
What leaves your device, and only when you use it
- Sign-in and sync (optional). If you sign in, Google Firebase stores your sign-in and a copy of your practice data so it syncs across devices. Delete it by signing out and emailing us to remove your account.
- The AI coach. Messages you send to the coach, with your practice details, go through our server on Vercel to OpenAI to write the answer. They are not used to identify you.
- Google Calendar (optional). Only if you connect it, Sama reads and adds practice events in your calendar.
- Pose reports. If you report a problem with a pose, the pose, your note and the view you were looking at are saved so the pose can be fixed. If you are signed in, your account id is attached; nothing else.
- Hosting. Like every website, our host Vercel keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address and time) to run and protect the service.
Fonts, the pose models and all scripts are served from Sama’s own address, so opening the app does not contact Google or other third parties.
